                               Interview: The Kat
The former WWF Women's Champ talks about women              in wrestling, action in the ring, and Chyna.

June 16, 2000

The following interview from IGN Scoops was conducted by Pro Wrestling Ring Announcer, Shannon Rose, who runs the IGN Wrestling affiliate site, Pro Wrestling Daily.

Shannon Rose: I'm joined with The Kat from the World Wrestling Federation. How are you doing Kat?

The Kat: I'm doing absolutely wonderful, how are you doing?

Shannon: I'm doing pretty good. Let's talk about your feud with you and Terri (Runnels). What's upcoming with you and her? She cheated in the arm wrestling match. I couldn't believe what I saw!

Kat: That is just absolutely terrible. She spat right in my face, distracted me, and then turned my arm for the one, two, three! So I just had to give her a bronco buster if you know what I mean... Honestly, I don't know what's next for The Kat and Terri, maybe a pudding match, or a Jell-O match, or something of that nature to where I can really get her back, and get her back good.

Shannon: I heard Jerry Lawler is a fan of yours...

Kat: Jerry Lawler is my biggest fan! He wanted to give me to give him the bronco buster the other night I thought about it for a half of second, and then I decided, 'Nah, maybe next time.'

Shannon: Is there any future angles that you foresee? Are you going to be working against Terri in the near future? Or are you looking to maybe go after Stephanie, who's basically holding onto the WWF Women's title, but not defending it?

Kat: Has she defended it once at all?

Shannon: No she hasn't
(Editors Note: This interview took place before her title defense on Smackdown and Raw)

Kat: I need to get my belt back, I really do. I have to think of some kind of way to talk her into it, because obviously she doesn't want to defend it, she wants to hold onto it. I think there's a thirty day rule, where you have to defend it?

Shannon: Correct

Kat: Maybe I have her there, and we'll get a match in the future.

Shannon: How do you see women wrestling today. WCW seems to take it to one extreme, and WWF stays to the other. Do you feel women wrestling is getting the respect it deserves? Do you feel it deserves more respect?

Kat: Well I think the day of two women getting into the ring and putting holds on each other, and wrestling each other is over. Trish Stratus puts it as T & A. She doesn't show her T & A, but it’s more of a sexual thing, showing a little skin, and a I don't have a problem with that. I actually think that it’s a lot of fun. You have respect for the business and all that, but I think women have come a long way. Especially with Chyna, and now Tori. Debra and Terri are also a big influence in the wrestling business as far as the as far as women go. I feel real fortunate and honored to be grouped with those women.

Shannon: What is the future for yourself. Just to date back a little bit when you were Mrs. Stacy, and you had those feuds with Downtown Bruno before he decided to become a women...

Kat: [Laughs] No, No, forget about that match!

Shannon: [Laughs] Long forgotten angle there.

Kat: Buried in the snow! [Laughs]

Shannon: You have Mae Young. You have yourself. Where do you see yourself against a Mae Young or another mud match? Where do you see yourself in the WWF in the near future?

Kat: I am not a wrestler, quote, unquote. I really don't know a lot of holds or moves. When I get in there, I’ll do a bodyslam to Terri, or a bulldog. That’s something really big for me to be able to do, so I'm really proud of myself when I do stuff like that. They give me the opportunity to learn and to try. Pardon the expression, but I'm more of a 'cat fighter.' I would be happy accompanying someone to the ring. Someone like Val Venis, or Undertaker, or someone like that, and helping them win their matches, and not necessarily having to go in and have a wrestling match myself. Those are absolutely a lot of fun, but I just don't see The Kat as a wrestler.

Shannon: Why did they pull you from working with Chyna?

Kat: That is the biggest mystery of the World Wrestling Federation.

Shannon: I thought that was a great combination...

Kat: I loved that! She and I just had the idea the day she won the Good Housekeeping Match (Editors Note: It was the No Mercy PPV, on October 17, 2000, at the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio against Jeff Jarrett) that we should team up. We really clicked and really formed a tight team together, and played well off each other. We were really having a lot of fun, and then decided to put her and Jericho together. They just said, 'Please the crowd.' They just let me sit back and watch. Right about that time is when I was doing my own thing like back in December with the Armageddon Pay-Per-View. I won the title, and did a few matches of course on my own. I think it just evolved, and they just forgot about that scenario. Who knows though, maybe will get to Rodchester, New York, Monday morning, and they'll tell us, 'Hey, you and Chyna need to go out together,' and we'll just say, 'great!' [Laughs]

Shannon: Well thank you Kat for your time

Kat: Okay, thank you!
