I’D RATHER HAVE A CIGARETTE
By Alicia B

You’re better than the last boy that I met
That, no-one would try to deny
But still I’d rather just light this cigarette
Than watch you sleeping where you lie

You’re better than the last boy that I met
He set my standards low
But still I’d rather just light this cigarette
Than talk for hours about thing I don’t care to know

Somewhere between good and bad
But there’s quite a large gap between the two
So much could be better, so much could be worse
That’s all I seem to feel about me and you
Instead of making ‘love’ to you, I’m writing this verse…

You’re better than the last boy I let
Crawl into me deep red sheets
But still I’d rather just light this cigarette
Than with your parents meet

You’re better than the last boy I let
Play around with my heart
But still I’d rather just light this cigarette
And still smoking it, depart

Somewhere between good and bad
But there’s quite a large gap between the two
So much could be better, so much could be worse
That’s all I seem to feel about me and you
Instead of making ‘love’ to you, I’m writing this verse…

Better, perhaps, but easier to forget
You’re okay for now but I need something more
As still I’d rather light this cigarette
Than have a honeymoon period by the shores

You’re better than the last boy I met
Better, perhaps, but easier to forget
And so I’ll just light this cigarette
And hazily leave you reeling in the smoke
