Communal Conflict Not Caused By Religions, Scholars Say
Jakarta - Two Moslem scholars believed that religions do not lead to communal
conflicts, but the conflicts may originate from political, economic and social problems.
Prof James Winston Morris from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, and Dr.
Jalaluddin Rahmat, an Indonesian scholar disclosed this at a seminar entitled
`Understanding Religions and Religious Understanding` held here Monday.
Responding to a question at the seminar, Prof Morris, chairman for Islamic Studies
and Director of Post-Graduate Studies at the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies,
University of Exeter, said that it is important to know the source of the conflict (in a
bid to find a solution).
