Police step up disarmament campaign in Maluku
JAKARTA (JP): Police vowed on Monday to crack down on individuals and
organizations who continue to keep fire arms following Saturday's bombing which
injured at least 53 people in Ambon.
National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar was quoted by El Shinta radio on Monday
that the bomb blast could undermine the precarious peace between Muslims and
Christians in the province.
"We will intensify our operations and will take tough measures against those who
possess firearms and explosives," he said.
"Both communities have vowed to end the violence, he said, adding: "Security has
been improving, and the bombing proved that there are groups who do not want to see
peace."
