Berthy Loupatty Released

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta : Berthy Loupatty of the Coker (Christian Boys) gang in Ambon has been released after being questioned by an investigating team, according to the Deputy Head of the Joint Investigator Team Lt. Col, Irwansyah.

"We've released Loupatty and he is being monitored by the Army's Special Force (Kopassus) now," Irwansyah said in Ambon on Monday (20/5).

Loupatty --who was allegedly involved in triggering many incidents in Ambon-- was released as the team cannot detain a witness for more than 48 hours.

Another suspect, Yunus Sihaya, has said the Coker gang was involved in triggering many incidents, including bombing action at the California Ferry, the Hartono Shop, bombing action on Jalan Said Perintah and at some churches.

The gang was also allegedly involved in provoking people of Porto and Haria areas in Saparua District, Central Maluku, provocation that led to conflict.

"We will investigate these cases and try to solve them," said Irwansyah.

He went on to explain that Loupatty and Sihaya are key witnesses regarding the clash between Kopassus and the Police Mobile Brigade ‘Brimob' in the Kudamati area on Tuesday last week (14/5). (Friets Kerlely-Ambon)
