Vice President: Kostrad Troops to Maintain Security in Ambon
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta :The plan of Indonesian Military (TNI) headquarters (HQ)
to send Emergency Strike Troops (PPRC) of Army's Special Force (Kostrad) to
Ambon should not be responded to negatively as the plan was made due to the
central government's intention to maintain the security in Ambon.
Vice President Hamzah Haz made this statement to journalists after opening a
national work meeting of Indonesian Telephone Café Association in Jakarta on
Tuesday (21/5).
"In my opinion, this sending is a military duty but it's carried out to maintain the
security in Ambon," he said.
As reported earlier, Kostrad chief Lt. Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu said that the TNI HQ
would send Kostrad special troops to Ambon in order to maintain security in the
province.
Hamzah said that if the presence of these Kostrad troops created new problems in
Ambon, the government and TNI leaders would review the decision to deploy the
troops.(Wuragil – Tempo News Room)
