Yudhoyono Calls on Foreign Countries Not to Intervene in
Indonesia's Home Affairs
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta : Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on foreign countries not to intervene in the
problems of Aceh, Ambon, and West Papua.
He made this statement after attending a cabinet meeting at the State Secretariat
office in Jakarta on Thursday (23/5).
The minister was responding to a resolution by the European Union, which calls on
Indonesia to formulate a solution for the problems in the provinces.
Yudhoyono went on to say that Indonesia had yet to receive the resolution officially
and, according to him, foreign countries should respect Indonesia's sovereignty. So
far, he explained, Indonesia has made policies that are intended to stop conflict and
violence.
Therefore, Indonesia can not accept intervention from foreign countries.
"It will be good if the countries were paying attention, taking part in technical
cooperation, or providing humanitarian aid. But, telling us what political policies to
take is not proper," said Yudhoyono. (Dede Ariwibowo-Tempo News Room)
