Situated in Austria's Hohe Tauern National Park, Bad
Gastein offers a magnificent panorama of Alpine splendor.
The village shares the Gasteinertal Valley with the small towns
of Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein. Together they provide access
to 250 kilometers (155 miles) of ski terrain. Bad Gastein's
highest lift-linked mountain is the Graukogel standing at 2,492
meters (8,196 feet) and is home to World Cup runs. Nearby Stubnerkogel
Mountain rises to 2,230 meters (7,316 feet) and the third peak,
the Schlossalm, is located near Bad Hofgastein and reaches an
elevation of 2,050 meters (6,742 feet) |

An old spa
village in the centre of one of Austria's largest ski areas,
the Gastein Valley. The area is famous for its thermal healing
weater, accessed by several spas as well as the huge and varied
ski area linking several resorts in the region, with runs up
to eight kilometres (five miles) long.

Bad
Gastein hosts 35 kilometers (22 miles) of well maintained cross-country
tracks. An additional sixty kilometers (37 miles) of tracks
wind throughout the three-town area. Snowboarders will find
a snowpark with a half-pipe in Dorfgastein. There's also a boardercross
area as well as a terrain park with rails and tabletops. The
Argental and the Sportgastein areas also boast half-pipes. Many
snowboarding competitions are held in this area. Off-trail boarding
in the Sportgastein provides a thrill for the more adventurous

Gastein is well known in Europe for its spirited nightlife.
Discos help dancers party the night away. Jazz music can be
heard at the Gatz, while Haggblom's serves up locally distilled
beers. Bad Gastein is home to an old-style casino,
as well.
The hot springs are a major draw in this ski/spa town. Indoor
and outdoor heated pools help visitors relax in soothing waters.
