Character Review: Fushigi Yuugi
Warning: This is
a review section, meaning OPINIONATED remarks about the characters. You don't
like what you read? Then by all means
and rant it out on me. ^_~
Miaka
Miaka
is the lead character in this series, and boy, is she an USAGI! Food-loving,
instinctive, impulsive, stubborn and amazingly stupid. I wonder why this formula
for lead female characters work??? Watchers end up disliking them, as a result.
I am very disappointed in the way the seishii all seems to be falling for her. I
mean, why waste their time? I think its because she's the only one around. I
mean, if Yui were to become Suzaku no Miko, I'm sure the seishii will fall for
her too. (Is it obvious that I dislike Miaka? ^_~)
Remarks: Can eat tons of food in one sitting, beware her ear-shattering scream, totally in love with Tamahome
Favorite Expression: TAMAHOMEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Tamahome
Tamahome is Miaka's sworn protector among the seishii. I have this uncertain
feeling of whether to like him or not, so I'm not saying much. What I can say is
though, he is one money grouch! He's cool, but his I-must-save-MIaka attitude
can be annoying at times.
Remarks: Mark on his forehead, can beat up enemies with Suzaku-powered karate, totally in love with Miaka
Favorite Expression: MIAKAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Hotohori
Hotohori is the Emperor of Konan and one of the seishii. I loooove Hotohori. The
thing is though, how come the series didn't give him much justice? I mean, his
death was so... unemphasized. I wanted to cry when he died, but I couldn't
because when I watched his 'special' tribute, I felt bad about how shallow his
fellow seishii treated it. If I were a seishii, I would be devastated to hear
about his death. I cannot eat for a week. I will cry my heart out. I will be so
sad I'll thirst on revenge on Nakkie and beat him silly. One thing more about
the series is that it featured Hotohori as a boring character, and it didn't
focus on his inner sadness. I don't think he loves Miaka. I think he's in love
with the Suzaku no Miko, and he's just afraid to face his feelings that he loved
Nuriko too. ^_~
Remarks: Perfect swordsmanship, conceited about his drop-dead good looks, totally in love with himself..... joking!..... I prefer to think that he loves Nuriko but is afraid to face it
Favorite Expression: We must save Konan
Nuriko
The
name Nuriko suits his character so much that it seems like the name was made
just for him. Nuriko is willowy. There's no better word to describe his
charismatic, cheerful and Hotohori-crazed personality, punctuated by that
flirtatious wink he always throws out. His character is adventurous,
street-smart and always hopeful. He and Hotohori make a perfect match! ^_^
Remarks: He has the strength of a hundred men, totally in love with Hotohori
Favorite Expression: Oohh, Hotohori sama! (drool drool, stare stare)
Tasuki
Why
did he have to fall for Miaka in the OST? His I-couldn't-care-less-about-girls
attitude suits him very much. Did he have a fight with Kouji or what? Tasuki is
the Kuwabara of Fushigi Yuugi, the comical character whose strength you wouldn't
want to mess with. What can I say, I like Tasuki!
Remarks: enjoys badgering Tamahome, enjoys badgering Miaka, beware his.....
Favorite Expression: ..... Holy Flame of Fiiireee!
Another Favorite Expression: Ooooooowwwww!!!
Chichiri
He is
so kawai! Chichiri is the wise sorcerer that can turn into a cute kitsune. His
outfit looks like he's a fisherman though, but behind that fishy look is a
powerful sorcerer that can rival Tomo! Chichiri is one cool seishii no otaku
could hate!
Remarks: Teleportation magic, Chi-shockwaves, has a queer liking for hanging upside down from the palace ceilings
Favorite Expression: Hehehe!
Mitsukake
Mits
is the gentle giant of the group- big and masculine with a not-so-masculine
power of healing. I don't think the series gave him much emphasis as much as he
deserves though. I think he should have more sense of humor in that uptight
personality of his.
Remarks: has a pet cat he miraculously hides in his tunic, mega-powered healing (once a day only, I'm afraid)
Favorite Expression: Hold still....
Chiriko
I pity
poor Chiriko. Why? Because he's not a much favorite character simply because
he's a child lost within a bishonen-filled anime. Friends have said they
actually prefer Amiboshi to play Chiriko's part because, well, he's
yummy-looking. But Chiriko does have a few surprises in him, like when he
sacrificed his own life to save Miaka and the others.
Remarks: Beware his leaf....
Favorite Expression: I think I'll go to the library...
Yui
I have
to admit I like Yui better than Miaka, because she's more sensible. I actually
like her. Her bitchy actions were just a result of a bad twist of fate. I mean,
why did she have to fall on Seiryuu? She deserves to be Suzaku no Miko as well.
And why did the Seiryuu seishii have to be so bad? Whats so bad about Seiryuu
anyway? I think the writer is biased between Suzaku and Seiryuu. Seiryuu has as
much right to win as Suzaku does, because they are both gods.
Nakago
The
series made Nakago a perfect villain- power hungry, perverted and
evil-motivated. But I'm glad they gave Nakago a good reason to be, due to his
childhood and all.
Suboshi
Amiboshi might be a little more mature than his twin brother, but Suboshi still
has his strengths as a person. His love for Yui is commendable, although I can't
say he did much for Yui.
Keisuke
Miaka's big bro did an excellent job of providing a side-story to the series, and his antics also bring watchers to smile. His role in the series is well balanced, and his attitude just makes him a perfect Miaka's old bro.
