Prall Street
Prall Street runs through the heart of the Lexington area known as "Pralltown". Pralltown has tradionally been an area with a primarily African-American population, such as the beloved Drag Queen Sweet Evening Breeze, who lived here for the majority of his life, hosting get-togethers and entertaining guests. The eccentric artist Henry Faulkner lived here with him for some time.
Prall Street takes you directly to the railroad tracks that run parallel to South Broadway. Along these tracks in the Pralltown district, a Transylvania University professor was run over by a train while searching for an entryway to the caverns beneath Lexington.
A very important nightclub of the Lexington Punk/New Wave scene in the early 1980's was The Pralltown Cafe, which was immortalized in the song by Stealin' Horses, "Ballad of the Pralltown Cafe", capturing their memories of the days when the band played there in their earlier incarnation known as Radio Caf. Years later the song would be covered by the great Richmond garage band The Herbivorous Dayglo Spamtins.
