"A Lost Love" (accidentally lost)

@Uootem

I accidentally lost the only thing that meant so much to me
But I didn't realize what I had done until it was over
What we once had can never again be
No more lazy days lying in love's sweet clover.

You took something from me that I can never get back
Love of youthfulness is often so fragile
when taken so suddenly it knocks you heart off track
Once lost, it can carry so much pain for a long while.

I tried to find a way back to your love somehow
Tried to tell you what you meant in verse
But I know I have not the courage now
And sharing my feelings might make things worse.

What words I write of you now you will not hear
No matter from what part of me they come
I have failed to hold you to me near
And no longer would my words be welcome.

Don't forgive me for letting you go, I don't forgive myself
At least with this pain I can let the poet live
And take pen in hand, and paper from the shelf
And let him give all the love he has to give.

I don't want to go on alone... to never talk, and never see
the love of my life which is you
But if you ever feel that you want or that you need me
Just let me know and I will appear with love anew.

I wish you happiness you deserve above all I have felt
But my heart will never heal from this tragic loss
So when I happen to meet you again... and you notice that I seem to melt
Just count it as exhaustion and heat from carrying lost love's cross.
