Don't Fall in Love

@Uootem

Really loving someone
    when they no longer care,
          is like being here but
                wanting to be there.
Watching someone walk away
to a place you can not go,
          is like feeling strong emotions
for a love you no longer know.
Feeling like crying when
    the tears no longer flow,
          is like loving someone
but you can't let it show.
Standing at a distance and
    whispering "I still love you"
is like looking beyond a garden gate
with no key to let you walk through.
There is nothing in this world
    that causes so much pain,
as wanting her smile of sunshine
on a day filled with so much rain.
Dreaming of a future time
when love will be set right,
          is like sleep walking
on a long cold winter's night.
Love is so beautiful when it is
but when it is not love hurts too much,
the price you pay is high,
for remembering kisses, handholding and such.
Shattered stained glass windows
that still let the sunlight pass through
but don't change the white light to brilliant colors
as they did when they were new.
And when you try to follow your heart
on a pathway you know used to be there
you soon find that the course is treacherous
and the more you try the more you get nowhere.
So when I say don't fall in love,
    you'll hurt before it's through;
You see friend, this truth I leaned,
for I fell in love with you.
