"Summer's Love"

@Uootem

The boy and the girl that you and I were
found themselves in a special love,
once upon a sun-filled summer's day,
and
in the supple luminosity of the moon,
you said you loved me forever.
And looking back now, I believe you meant it.
For those summer days and nights of adolescent love
were warm, safe and filled with joy.
You brought such feelings
to my inexperienced heart,
things I never knew
that I could feel.
things I have never
felt since then.

We had hopes and thought our love would
endure the brutal trials of time
that lay in store for those two fragile hearts.
But we fell into that summer love too fast
and we were so young and
when summer's encouraging days were spent,
the sharing of love began to fade.

Now in adulthood, our lives have grown apart,
Yet I still think of your special ways often and
I still feel the love I always have had for you.
Whether in waking moment or dream,
no one else could hold such strong appeal.

I love you more than these inadequate words.
and
how I wish our summer of love,
Could return to warm me through winter
and
in the supple luminosity of a new moon,
you could say you love me still.
