"saying goodbye"

@Uootem

Something inside tells you that you knew me before,
for a moment you felt emotions that you can feel no more,
in that instant you saw a once familiar face,
and you recall, the warmth, the sounds, of another time and place
You once walked with me here when love was felt
But you know you must refuse to go where hearts might again melt
for though it all once might have meant something
This scene could bring back memories you don't wish to remember.

And I, I knew, I felt it, I too saw a beloved face
I recall, the warmth, the sounds, of a once shared place
I often have seen these in my mind, but then slowly back away
for I know these thoughts should be forbidden me today
But I refuse to let go of love that meant something
a love that touched the most important parts of my being
for just the sight, or sound, or thought of you, still yet
brings back memories I simply can't forget.

You saw, another time, walking by and saying hi
I saw, another time, walking by saying good-bye.
and as you stroll on past my view
I must wonder did you feel it too?
The nights, passion calling, love different from the rest
I recall, you recall, we remember the best
Memories, none you or I can ever forget,
suddenly slipped by again... I feel the regret.

To choose between two, of choices, of life's test
You, you made your choice, considered it best
Went your own direction, what more can I say
but that my heart died that dreadful day.
I walked away, but I knew, I felt it, I saw what others did not
you continued on, but you knew, you felt it, you saw what others did not
But can't you see it would have been better for you to stay
for our promised future could have been today.

I am attempting forgetting, I have forgiven, I am now remembering alone
I can't have the love I desired before, no love from you ever shown
Things are changing, I am finally getting on with life -
but with a heart wounded by time's cruel knife.
But can't you see it would have been better for you to stay.
What more truth of this is there I could say?
You saw, another time, walking by and saying hi
I saw, another time, walking by saying good-bye.
