"I was really in love once"

I experienced real love... once upon a more youthful day
the true kind of love... that never seems to fades way
the love that gets under your skin... and into your heart
then changes everything... forever those emotions do not part.

But that one experience... was quiet enough for me
for during that briefest of encounters... of one springtime day
I found the one... and I'm going to love her eternally
for it changed everything... and forever those emotions will stay.

Yes, I was in really in love only once... of this must I confess
but she needed to leave so long ago... to find her life I guess.
I had to get over it... and somehow move on with my life
I found a different way to love again... a few years ago found a wife.

Somehow, I made it through... the heartbreak and the pain.
established my career... found a way to stay rational and sane.
this day I am happy... lead a somewhat pleasant life
Cover myself with its successes... and find very little strife.

You see... I had to find someway to exist outside of
the comfort and emotion... offered by that one real love.
But it changes not the undeniable... the truth of the matter, the fact
that I have been in love once... and dream of her coming back.

For it was during a time... when I thought I would never
that boy I was... was in control and way too cleaver
But the first time... and the only time I fell in love
was when you and I together... fit like a glove.
