... i must dream

@Uootem

again, i acquiesce into another dreamlike state
just as so often before, to relish all the emotions
that have haunted me from ages past...
a cloud of memories that surrounds and envelopes.

i am truly not here, but where? --
so many questions... unclear to reason
yet my vision of hoping is so distinctly clear...
for I see with the eyes of love once shared.

laying there, the you I once knew so well.
the sound and feel of your breath
surrounding me as I am suspended in the mist
envisioning you from every vantage point.

a distant light through un-curtained window
illuminates the focus my attention.
as my vision heightens to the seductive silhouette of your body.
such perfect form... in an imperfect world.

you are my vision... my dreamscape
as i trace your body with the spiritual fingers -- your lips, your neck... down your back
detailing every variation in texture, color and shape.
and i find such pleasure in remembering of things once known...

at last, the camber of your back beckons...
your body, reacts with urgency to my touch
as it did in a more corporal time and
again I recall the promise of a morning's sun rising.

then you stir... as if you somehow
sensed my presence... but I am not there
for you do not truly remember...
it is only my dreaming that keeps "us" alive.

I scrutinize your essence with all my memory...
a temple of love that stands on a distant hillside
within sight of this weary traveler through time...
yet, no roadway i find for approach.

so i stand across the chasm of ages spent
so deep and ever widening with each moment lost
and search for your soul...
for there is the passage to your heart...

i gaze into the depths of your eyes...
seeking answers to unanswerable questions
for your eyes no longer hold words for me...
and their silence haunts my scrutiny.
I wake to whisper your name, in tones of carnality...
the screams of longing that make no sound
but within the distant land of the lost
and I know forevermore... why i must dream.
