Surrenders once more

@Uootem

ominously darkened clouds hover overhead,
like an impending tempest on the horizon...
there is no silver lining to be discovered
when your heart is still experiencing the storm...

uninhabited streets are littered with the fallen casualties...
torn bodies and rumbled buildings,
fragments of broken hearts strung about
all future promises destroyed by time's passing...

in the distance the rumblings of artillery shells
bombarding another fortress of hope
reality and sanity can be so cruel...
the unspoken war that sniffs out love so suddenly.

it has been years since he has witnessed anything,
save pain and emptiness... so tragic a foe is memory...
for he is veteran of such a catastrophic loss
wearing a purple heart... when red would be his preference.

then, in a moment of perfect-halted time,
from across the horizon, a voice calls to him once more.
as familiar eyes met: his soul reached out, navigating the chasm of time-and-space
and for that moment there is the warmth of the embrace of recognition.

because of this single event, he is sure there is beauty to be experienced
in the midst of all this chaos he has come to know so well
a single wonderful smile shared with him that day,
can rebuild paradise from the ashes of all this turmoil.

he now carries a piece of conviction tucked warmly deep inside...
that someday the world will be a better place...
more like the Eden he once shared with her.
how rare indeed that in all this, the warlike life of adulthood;
as he surrenders his heart to her once more...
