I love Lighthouses!
@uootem
On the brink of night, the moon rose full as the world quieted to such splendor and beauty
with mirrored moon stretched out before my craft
as if a tether to serve as trusted helmsman
the sea granted calm and complacency
to the weary sailor of seascape imagination.
The day of winds and youthful frivolity
had replenished my sails with inspiration
and expectations of some bright future
in distant ports of call, as of then unobserved
and with no anchor to complicate my passage
begin a voyage for foreign worlds unexplored.
But time and winds do change... by fate and destiny
as strong breakers announce the evening storm astern. as ship and man are tossed and torn... remembering that initial shore
from a distant way, a flapping echo... like a haunting whisper thunder of reality rolling over bow, and spray brushing regretful face forming twinkling teardrops wetting upon whiskered cheeks a restlessness for a treasure lost strikes... catching up with you.
Likewise, retract the mast that once sought the lust for life,
in deep waters that were not my own... uncharted, yet mapped in the mind caressing with empty arms the memory of mermaid fair
her sensual beauty adorned with attire composed of the sea weeds and coral a momentary taste of salty mist... the kiss of Piscean goddess
lingers ever in the very moorings of my being.
Now what of days gone by, do they remain in memory, to haunt? what of nights like this in poetry, hours of contentment and dreaming? only to awake, and feel the emptiness of the oceans away vastness. then a miracle, perhaps from Poseidon himself....
a beacon from a far-off pharos... navigates me home again
where tides lap pleasingly upon familiar ground...
and I set my feet upon sands time forgot, but I never could!
and she is waiting there... with lantern in hand, ever watchful...
god, how I love lighthouses!
