again I fall

@Uootem 2002

If words remain unspoken, can they still be understood,
as they scream to be heard in a portentous muteness
of a happenstance meeting of long lost lovers
if words remain unspoken, can they still be understood,
when confessions remain on the tip of the tongue and useless
for casual conversation consumes but a brief moment as time hovers,
if words remain unspoken, can they still be understood
as hearts feel an undertone of a once cherished sensation,
and pent-up emotions entangle the throat of hesitation.

I realize that the time apart has built a stalwart palisade
that encumbers the passage to reconciliation as possible as it seems,
even as my stare threatens to reveal the yearning that remains
I realize that the time apart has built a stalwart palisade
bittersweet, the joys of youthful love and reoccurring dreams
that have become the seeds of regret to be felt in tearful rains
I realize that the time apart has build a stalwart palisade
as we stand before one another in more formal adulthood.
yet, somehow can there be a mutual remembrance somehow understood?

and at a new parting, too short this meeting
do we dare recall such better times, of laughter and touch,
of joy and contentment... all the things of love?
and at a new parting, too short this meeting
do we dare recall thoughts that replay in minds that know too much
of smiles and playful fun... the banter of once shared love?
and at a new parting, too short this meeting
could something have changed, within the man that I am,
chains of ice around a heart that cares but cannot melt them.
