Planet
Of The Apes - 2001 7-31-01
Mark Wahlberg A remake of the classic original. I've never seen the original, but if it's anything like this one, without the giant plothole (to find out about that, view my Planet Of The Apes Rant), it's got to be a five star affair. I enjoyed the movie from start to finish and felt Tim Burton did an excellent job of distancing this movie from the original. The makeup and story were outstanding and I found myself guessing possible endings from the very beginning. It even featured a very cool cameo by the man who played the human in the original Apes, Charleton Heston. A must see for anyone interested in sci-fi, and Roger Ebert can kiss my ass with his review. Ebert explains how the movie can be good at times, but in 10 years people will still be renting the 1968 version. Ebert, in 10 years I STILL won't even be able to find a video store that HAS that version. People want the special effects and the cool makeup. That's the way people are. This movie may not be the best thing ever, but it intrigues in a whole different way. You really can't do a comparison other than the fact it's about a planet full of Apes. |
