Why Organize a Neighborhood Watch?
Crime and fear threaten the community's well being - people become afraid to use streets and parks, suspicion erupts between young and old, shops gradually leave. Crime in turn feeds on the social isolation it creates. the Neighborhood Watch Program is one of the most effective and least costly answers to crime and fear of crime. Neighborhood Watch fights the isolation that crime both creates and feeds upon. It forges bonds among are residents, helps reduce burglaries and robberies, and improves relations between police and the communities they serve. Watch groups are a foundation of community crime prevention; they can be a stepping stone of a community.
