ABOUT UPIS '02...

(This article, which is a bit lengthy, is not meant to define Batch 2002 in any way, for definitions change, are constricting, inaccurate, or in some cases, even nonexistent.)

UPIS Class of 2002 has been described by members of succeeding batches as "the nicest batch of seniors one can encounter". This description is often accompanied by adjectives such as "friendly", "supportive" and "easygoing", as well as by fondly-recounted anecdotes to serve as proof. '02 has also been described by former principal Eleanor Hermosa as among those most expressive of their love for the country, a flattering, if not quite surprising, description, considering its source. Less flattering labels, however, include "overidealistic", "impatient", "impractical", "stubborn", "rebellious" and "subversive". '02ers have been criticized, as well, for being procrastinators who love to cram and deviously collude with each other.

But what is the class of 2002?

UPIS '02 is a diverse group of artists and philosophers: musicians, thespians, poets, terpsichoreans, writers, activists, scientists, athletes - you name it - all pondering the intricacies and mysteries of society, human nature and that phenomenon called life, which, in itself, is an art. '02 is a large group, and it counts as members not just the 164 individuals who received their diplomas on 18 April 2002. Also part of it are those who, despite having moved to other institutions or groups, continue to keep contact with their former classmates, with whom they share treasured experiences, memories and an extraordinary bond.

This site/page attempts to serve as a window to those who wish to learn more about the class, and as a virtual guide to the members of '02. While perusing its contents, may they remember to maintain their high ideals in the pursuit of their dreams, both for themselves and the society they are part of.
