Bruce L. Anderson Recreation Area
(Recharge Lake)
|
The Bruce L. Anderson Recreation Area, named in honor of the longtime NRD director
and conservation advocate, is located 1 3/4 miles west of York on 4th Street.
The recreation area houses Recharge Lake, a 50-surface-acre lake with 310 acre-feet
of storage on a tributary of Beaver Creek.
Originally constructed in 1990 for a five-year study on groundwater recharge,
the lake is now used primarily for recreation and is stocked with bluegill,
largemouth bass and catfish. Boating under 5 miles per hour is permitted;
there is a boat ramp on the east side of the lake. No hunting is allowed.
Other facilities at the recreation area include picnic tables, cooking grills
and fire rings, hiking trails, outhouses, playground equipment,
and an ice skating pond in the wintertime. A visitor’s center/shelter is located
near the entrance to the site.
