Gravel Surfing

What is Gravel Surfing??

Gravel Surfing is riding your BMW GS motorcycle on dirt roads. The GS in the name of our motorcycles comes from the German words Gelande Strasse which translates roughly to road and track. We thought Gravel Surfing was more appropriate.

The type of riding we do varies from touring on well-formed gravel roads to day rides on fire trails in the National Parks and State Forests surrounding Canberra, Australia.

As you probably know there are many benefits to riding on gravel roads. I have yet to see a radar trap or speed camera on a gravel road. There is less traffic, less built up areas and more wild life (sometimes not such a good thing).

We try to organise a day ride or a weekend away once a month.

Up Coming Rides

September 20/21 A gravel surfing route to the ACT BMW club weekend at Bermagui - Leave Tharwa at 8.30am

September 27-30 - Mungo National Park. Four day ride

October 25/26 - Kosciuszko Rally at Geehi Hut in the Snowy Mountains. Meeting point and time of departure to be decided.

Getting involved?

We are hoping to organise a ride for the last weekend in every month. All planned rides will be listed on this website but impromptu rides and planning discussions often happen by e-mail. If you want to be involved in future rides send an email to gravelsurfing@yahoo.co.uk or call me on 0407 415 294

Newsletter

A newsletter is published every few months with reports on our rides and other gravel surfing related matters and will be available for download from the website.
