History of Hang Gliding & Paragliding

[ ringstead.jpg ] On the way to the cliffs at Ringstead

Ringstead is the Wessex club's alternative to Kimmeridge in that it also faces south-west and is only a few miles away along the Dorset coast. The take off is from a hill a little way inland. From there you reach a relatively low cliff by flying over woodland dotted with houses and power / telephone lines. Conditions permitting, height is then gained for a 'sideways' transit to the main cliff.

Although spectacular -- it is open to the public as a national park -- Ringstead’s many hazards include orographic cloud that can form and within minutes completely obscure the ground.
