Tutorials > Clean the computer

cleaning time

Well let’s give a small cleaning to your most valuable electronic partner. Before you start the job, make sure computer is turned off (shut down) and unplugged from electricity outlet.

The easiest part to clean in the computer is physical components. For example monitor, keyboard and the system unit. Take a tissue paper or piece of cotton cloth, and clean all the dust.

(Not for optical mouse users). Turn up side down of the mouse and take the mouse ball out, by turning the its locker. Now keep the plastic ball in a safe place. And use a cotton swab to remove the dirt on the plastic rollers. Put the roll back where it was and set back its locker.

If you have compressed air can or blower you can clear the inside of system unit too. Take a screw drive and remove the cover and direct the air inside of it. But it should not be a cyclone since inside parts may be damaged. After the clean set back the cover as it was.

For the following cleanings the computer must be turned on

Use your computers find or search facility to find temporary documents. These files waste your storage capacity and processing power. In Windows 98 use start > find > file or folders to bring the find window and type “*.tmp” in the named field and in look in drop down menu select the hard disk drive or drives you want to clear. Then hit enter and see how many of temporary files occupy in you hard disks.

After the search do not close the window go to menu bar and select edit > select all to select all files in search result. Then hit delete key and say yes to alert message.

Use windows ScanDisk and Defragmenter facility to arrange files, which may be speed up computer. Or you can use a utility program such as Norton Utilities to the same task in a more professional way.
