Resources > Types of Computers |
 |
You may know or may not know how many types of computers available in the
industry. For those who aware of these computer types, can check their
knowledge and amateurs would recognize the available types.
|

|
Desktop PC
Many users may know it. That's the thing sitting on your desktop.
Available as different parts as Monitor, CPU, keyboard and mouse etc. These
are ideal for home and office (word processing, spreadsheet, surf web and
why not for playing games) but not for people who travel a lot and have many
field work.
Relatively in expensive and easy to manage. In the market you have two
choices. Mac or PC? the difference. Macs are made by Apple computer or their
license holders. They are best of graphics and desktop publishing. PC's may
be IBM or IBM compatible systems. More people depend on PC's.

|
Notebook
Ideal for people who have field work and travel a lot. But expensive
comparatively with Desktop PC's (sometimes twice as Desktop PC's). They are
less weight and (6 lbs) fit into ordinary briefcase, or you can get a
specially designed notebook carrying case.
If you are on the road, notebook would rely on batteries. So make sure you
have enough power to complete your work. To avoid uncomfortable situations
use main current where possible. Most batteries may go down after two three
hours, but some would pass five or six hours mark.

|
PDA
Abbreviation for Personal Digital Assistant and would function as your
cellular phone, fax machine, email station and personal organizer. Do not
expect a keyboard, since the space available they are designed to use light
pen. But in some PDA's you may find small keyboard too.
For the history part I would like to say in 1993 Apple computers proudly
introduced first PDA as Newton MessagePad. You may have heard about
palmtops, hand-held computers and pocket computers, don't worry the are
referred to the PDA.

Servers
As the name they would serve your or your clients demands. Some times server
is just another Desktop PC. But it's less powerful. If you are serious about
the business you can have different type of servers.
Web servers, mail servers are connected to the net and may use to host web
pages and handle emails respectively. For those who share the same program
can install it in one computer (application server) and use it though a
network. A data warehouse is another type and store valuable data. |
