Sarah was sitting at her table. It was three years after her "visit" in the Labyrinth and life was not worth living anymore. No reason to go to school, no reason to tidy up, but she still kept doing all those things. Everything was a circle without a meaning, just repeating things without any heart. Now she was alone. Her parents and brother had left for a trip. She hadn’t been interested in going with them. She wasn't interested in anything anymore; she rarely went out, she didn't read, she only thought of... him. It was getting darker. Sarah took a deep breath. "I wish the goblins would come and take ME away, right now!" Nothing happened. She relaxed. Sarah didn't know whether to be disappointed or glad. She turned from the mirror and then she was blinded by a flash of light.
When she woke up, she felt strange. She looked around. Gray ceiling, walls without pictures. She blinked. "Don't be afraid, my dear," a pleasant voice said. "Everything's gonna be all right." Somebody stroked her hair. She focused on a goblin woman bending down over her. She had tousled white hair, lots of wrinkles in her brownish gray face and a kind smile. She was much larger than she should have been. Sarah tried to say something, but her voice failed. It worked! "Some rogue wished you away to goblins," the woman explained. "But you don't have to worry. Everything will be OK. Can you speak, child?" Sarah opened her mouth, but instead of words she only made a squeaking sound. She raised her hand and raised it to her eyes. It took her a moment to realize it was her hand what she was looking at. It was gray with hard skin. Short fingers. Oh no. |
