Sarah opened her mouth. "You... wouldn't do it," she said, but she wasn't very sure. He was making fun of her. She turned red again, when she realized it. "Send me home," she repeated in a small voice.

"Oh no. You said the words," he stood up and came closer to her, "you belong to me." He lifted a hand to her face and touched her gently. Sarah didn't move and she half closed her eyes at his touch. "Stay here, Sarah," he added. "Everybody likes you here. And I'm just one, not enough for all the goblins. If you stay with them, it will help them a lot."

"I'm... I'm ashamed," she whispered. Everybody? Really everybody? Or did he mean "all the goblins"?

"It's OK. The goblins will definitely forgive you. You know them, they won't even mention it. They will be glad they have such a pretty friend now. And I will forgive you, too, because I know why you did it." She looked at him with a question in her eyes. He smiled.

At the sunset they were standing next to the window. Jareth embraced her. "Sarah?"

"Yes?"

"Just one more thing, would you?"

"Sure. Everything."

"OK. So... stop swimming in the Bog of Eternal Stench, will you?"
