Evidence for the Resurrection
1Co 15:1-8, 11-22, 30-32
• Was Jesus a real person?
• Is there any evidence that He rose from the dead?
• Can we trust the Witnesses?
• Did something else happen?
Background:
1. The Biblical accounts say that Jesus died, was buried in a tomb, was raised from the dead on the third day and was seen by many.
2, if Jesus is really who He claimed to be, the Son of God, and rose from the dead then it affects all of history but
3. if He did not Rise from the dead, then we are all lost and without hope
The Resurrection of Jesus is the most probable and reasonable explanation of the facts; Jesus is who He said He was and really did rise from the dead

I. The Resurrection Makes All The Difference
• 1Co 15:1-32
Outline

2. Consequences if there is no Resurrection (v.13-19)

Book Info
1. Author: Paul the apostle, converted after seeing Jesus alive from the dead (35 AD)
2. Date: c. 56 AD
a. Jesus’ crucifixion about 33 AD
II. Jesus: the Alternatives
A. Either the NT accounts that Jesus claimed to be God are true or false
The Gospel accounts of the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus are both
1) authentic (the NT as we have it is accurate of what the writers originally wrote) and
2) reliable (the writers had access to the facts and they are credible and trustworthy witnesses of those facts)
If there is no Resurrection, then Jesus was the world’s greatest deceiver and deserved to die but, if the Resurrection really happened, then He is who He claimed to be, the God-Man, God in Human Flesh.
III. The Evidence For Jesus the Christ
Facts that are accepted by most modern biblical scholars and historians:
1. Jesus was publicly executed and died on a Roman cross.
2. Jesus was buried in a tomb.
3. Jesus’ tomb was discovered empty the Sunday after his burial.
4. Jesus’ followers had no basis for hoping that he would be raised from the dead.
5. Women friends of Jesus had experiences of seeing Jesus alive from the dead.
6. Jesus’ apostles had experiences of seeing Jesus alive from the dead.
7. The first Christians proclaimed in Jerusalem just weeks after Jesus’ death that he had literally risen from the dead.
8. Paul, a persecutor of the Christians, converted to faith in Christ after seeing Jesus alive from the dead.
Good evidence exists to supports these
Jesus did what He said He would

• 2Co 5:21
• 1Jn 4:10
• Jesus was the ultimate perfect sacrifice that appeased or satisfied God’s wrath on sin.
• He alone became our substitute, bearing our sins so that we could have peace and a restored relationship with God.(Isa 53:5- 6)
• Jesus paid our fine so that we could escape eternal punishment and separation from God.
Christ died for the whole world, for all people but He paid for the sins of only those who believe, the elect
Jesus is the only qualified substitute; if sinners accept the Lord’s atoning work by faith, God applies its value to their accounts; if sinners do not trust in the Savior as their substitute, then they themselves must bear the full punishment of their sins (John 3:36)
