Priest killed in attack on Indonesian church
Police in Indonesia say an unidentified attacker has fired on a church, killing a woman
priest and injuring four other people.
The attack is the latest in a series by suspected Islamic extremists on Christian
targets in Central Sulawesi province, where hundreds of police are deployed to prevent
a new outbreak of sectarian conflict.
A provincial police spokesman says one of a group of five attackers burst into the
Effata Presbyterian church in the provincial capital, Palu, and opened fire, killing the
29-year-old priest.
Police say descriptions of the attackers, who arrived on two motorbikes, have been
distributed across the province, however they have declined to speculate as to
whether they are linked to Muslim militant groups.
The AFP news agency says Indonesia's national police chief, General Da'i Bachtiar,
is due in Palu to monitor the investigation.
