Indonesian court jails JI member for witholding information
An alleged member of the Jemaah Islamiyah terror network has been jailed for three
years in Indonesia, for withholding information.
The South Jakarta district court found Hutomo, alias Abu Farak, guilty for failing to
inform authorities of terror plots.
The court was told Hutomo, as leader of a JI cell in Lampung on southern Sumatra,
had sent members to attend meetings on bomb-making and firearm skills, between
February and June last year.
It also heard the cell, of some 15 members, had plans to attack police headquarters
both nationally and in Jakarta.
Authorities blame the Al-Qaeda-linked JI for a string of attacks including the Bali
bombings which killed 202 people in October 2002 and an attack on the Jakarta
Marriott hotel which killed 12 last August.
