Indonesian prosecutor gunned down in Central Sulawesi
province
A prosecutor who helped send three men to jail for their role in the Bali bombing
conspiracy has been shot dead in the Indonesian province of Sulawasi.
Our Indonesia correspondent, Tim Palmer, says the shooting comes at a time of
growing extremist violence in Sulawasi and a terror threat against western interests in
the area.
Fery Silalahi worked on a range of cases involving corruption and terrorism in
Sulawasi, among them helping to convict three Jemaah Islamiah (JI) members for their
connections to the October 2002 Bali bombings, in which 202 people were killed.
The three men were just last week acquitted by an appeals court, but Mr Silalahi had
been quoted as saying the men wouldn't be released until a prosecutor's appeal had
been heard.
