Police arrest terror suspect in W. Nusa Tenggara
JAKARTA: Indonesian police said Monday they have arrested a man for alle ged links
to a group suspected of planning terrorist bombings.
Dadang Garnida, deputy national detective chief, did not give the man's name but said
he was arrested Sunday in West Nusa Tenggara province.
He said the suspect is connected to a man called Adi Suryana, who was arrested in
Surabaya city on January 9 on suspicion of terror plots -- including a plan to bomb the
national police and Jakarta police headquarters.
Police said at the time that Suryana might also have information on fugitive Malaysian
explosives experts Azahari Husin and Noordin Mohammad Top.
The Malaysians are wanted for attacks including the 2002 Bali bombing that killed 202
people and the Marriott hotel bombing which killed 12 people in Jakarta last August.
Garnida said the suspect is connected to Suryana but his exact role is under
investigation. "Hopefully through the process of investigation he will reveal more of his
network," he tol! d reporters.
He said Suryana's group had attempted to carry out terror bombings "but we arrested
12 of them and now they are all in custody." (*)
