Hygienic Conditions at MAPOLDA-Ambon untenable
Groningen, 1-6-2004
For the thirteen FKM/RMS-Prisoners, who at this moment inhabit police-cells at
MAPOLDA, Batumeja-Ambon, twelve of whom come from Allang-village,
life-conditions are becoming untenable. They live in a room of four by four metre,
without air-conditioning and running water. Clean water has just become availble from
outside, brought in with bottles. WC's are so dirty that there are already prisoners
getting sick.
Also legal aid is in danger. Lawyers of these FKM/RMS-prisoners, who come from
Jakarta, don't dare or hardly dare to come to Ambon, as they fear violent attacks on
their lives. Logically so, when just a couple of days ago in Palu(Central-Sulawesi) a
public prosecutor was shot dead in cold blood.
From Ambon there is an urgent appeal for assistance from human rights
organisations.
