THE SITUATION IN AMBON/MOLUCCAS – Report No. 439
1. ROADBLOCKS LIFTED - The growing number of barricades, erected on the main
streets of the city of Ambon by both Muslims and Christians, angered the governor,
so that today he went up to at least five of these barricades and ordered them to be
torn down immediately - which order nolens volens was followed up. There now seems
to be left only one barricade: a container blockading the road through Tanah Lapang
Kecil.
2. FUGITIVES RECAPTURED - The four FKM members that managed to escape last
May 9 from the cell where they were in detention - an event that very much angered
the muslim community - yesterday were caught in their hidingplace: the village of
Aboru on the island of Haruku, Ambon's neighbouring island to the east. They have
been sent to Jakarta today together with another two FKM members.
3. NEW WEBSITE - A new website on the Moluccas conflict was launched a couple
of days ago: www.hmin.nl . It is in Dutch, English and Indonesian.
