WDC . Monday, 7 June 2004 . Shouting "Indonesian government are terrrorists" seven
to ten members of he Moluccas Sovereignty Front (FKM) for Republic of South
Moluccas demonstrated across the sreet from the Indonesian Embassy on Monday
evening demanding that the Indonesian government identify and prosecute those
repsonsible for the recnet violence in Ambron which since April 25 have resulted in the
death of 38 people of which 2/3 were Muslims.
Since April 25 which was thew anniversary of the short-lived Repiblic of the South
Moluccas that trieed to seperate from Indonesia in 1950 a new wave of violence has
erupted amongst the Muslim-Christian communites on thee island of Ambron in
Indonesia where 38 people have been shot ... in the head, neck and chest ... to death.
And others have died from machete wounds. 200 more have been wounded and nearly
10,000 have since been displaced.
The shootings took place on the morning of April 25 after members of the FKM had
held an anniversary ceremony at the home of Dr. Alexander Manuputty who as the
group's exiled founder had once been detained on rebvellious charges but after being
released late year on a techncality had fled to the United States.

In fact, Dr. Manuputty was amongst the demonstrators who protested in front of the
Indonesian Embassy on Monday, June 7th.
On May 23, 2004 six more people were injured in Ambron follwing an explosion on the
island where a total of two bombs ripped through the Muslim-Christian community.

While Indonesian President Megawali citing that the conflict is more political rather
than religious in nature has also made statements suggesting that members of the
FKM are the instigators.
However, Dr. Alex Manuputty and the demonstators charge that such violence is
actually 'Indonesian State Sponsored Terrorism".
