Seven Bali bombing convicts quarantined in Balikpapan, E.
Kalimantan
BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan (JP): Seven convicts of the Bali bombings are to be
quarantined for one month after being transferred to the prison here from Bali, an
official said.
Balikpapan Penitentiary warden Sutrimansyah Ridwan said on Tuesday that the
convicts are not allowed to receive visitors for one month, including family members.
"They have to undergo health examinations, among other things," he said.
According to him, penitentiary doctor Karunia Nente would examine the convicts on
Wednesday. "Who knows, maybe they suffer from a disease," Sutrimansyah added.
Balikpapan Penitentiary staff members would also seek data on the convicts,
including on their families. "We need the data so that we can contact their next of kin,
should something happen," Sutrimansyah said.
The seven convicts are staying in a seven meter by four meter cell, with no special
facilities.
An officer at the penitentiary said security hadn't been upgraded due to the presence
of the seven convicts.
The convicts arrived at Balikpapan Penitentiary at6.15 a.m. heavily guarded by
Baliand East Kalimantan police's Mobile Brigade officers, officers of the Balikpapan
Police and several plainclothes policemen.
The Balikpapan Penitentiary is located some five kilometers away from the airport.
