Timika heats up again
TIMIKA, Papua (Antara): The situation in Mimika district in the Papua town of Timika,
on Tuesday, again heated up following a communal clash that broke out on Monday.
Monday's clash erupted after the failure of a dialog held by the warring camps from
Jayanti village and Wangki Lama village to settle an earlier similar conflict.
Antara reported here on Tuesday that tension again escalated when the people of
Jayanti village brandished arrows and lances to fight their fellow villagers from Wangki
Lama.
Meanwhile, security personnel were seen on full alert in anticipation of further clashes.
The security personnel requested the villagers of Wangki Lama to remain calm and to
restrain themselves against any provocation from the villagers of Jayanti.
A peace dialog between the leaders of both camps is still underway as police are
trying to stop the people of Jayanti village from launching attacks.
