U.S. move against Manuputty demanded
JAKARTA: Indonesia is compiling legal documents on Maluku separatist leader Alex
Manuputty, to forward to the United States, with the expectation that he would be
included on its wanted list.
Interim coordinating minister for political and security affairs Hari Sabarno said on
Thursday that an intelligence report had revealed that Alex -- chairman of the Maluku
Sovereignty Front (FKM) -- left for the U.S. last December from his hometown in
Maluku province using a fake passport and identity cards.
Along with Semmy Waileruny, Alex was found guilty of "an act of subversion aimed at
dividing the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia." He was sentenced to three
years in prison, but was not immediately imprisoned. -- JP
