Small bomb goes off at KPU ahead of tally announcement
JAKARTA (JP): A small explosion rocked the offices of the General Elections
Commission (KPU) on Monday at about 1:05 p.m. No fatalities were reported.
"Forensic police officers are still collecting evidence from the crime scene, so we
cannot yet determine the type of explosive used," Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen.
Firman Gani told reportersat the KPU Media Center.
"We have questioned six KPU employees and two policemen stationed here," he
added.
The explosive was found in a cardboard package in the women's toilet on the ground
floor, when Brig. Joko Firmanto was conducting a routine patrol at about 1 p.m.
Joko immediately reported the package to his superior, who called the bomb squad.
The bomb went off before the squad arrived.
KPU chairman Nazaruddin Syamsuddin said he was awaiting confirmation from the
police as to whether the KPU could resume work or not.
The KPU is to announce today the official results of the presidential election.
