West Nusa Tenggara Police Cautious over Terrorism Suspects
TEMPO Interactive, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara:West Nusa Tenggara Police are
being cautious over the possible arrival of terrorism suspects from the Philippines and
Jamaah Islamiyah organization members in the province.
The police have guarded all entry and exit points in the province following a warning
from the National Police headquarters that all police must anticipate the possible
arrival of terrorist suspects and fugitives in their areas.
"We are improving the security, guard and monitoring of people's activities in our
regions," West Nusa Tenggara Police spokesman, Adj. Comm. Tri Budi Pangastuti,
told reporters in Mataram on Monday (07/06) afternoon.
According to Pangastuti, the National Police headquarters (HQ) have ordered the
police and the society to carry out patrolling activities and security their environment
from outsiders who might come and leave their borders.
"This order prevails on all regions in Indonesia," he stated.
National Police has received intelligence reports mentioning terror incidents in the
Philippines and neighboring countries' police records on terrorist identities and
activities in their countries.
Pangastuti declined to reveal the names of terrorists listed as fugitives.
Based on the testimony of a former hostage of Philippines terrorists in Jolo training
camp, Philippines, in 2003, two Indonesians, believed to be members of Jemaah
Islamiyah organization, were also involved in the training of the terrorist suspects in
the camp.
"Therefore, the National Police headquarters (HQ) has demanded the police in regions
to increase their awareness," she said.
There have been various reports stating that terrorist fugitives come from the
Philippines and Indonesia.
These fugitives are allegedly involved in the Taliban movement in Afghanistan.
