National Police Still Unable to Protect Some Areas in Ambon
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:National Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar has admitted that
the police are unable to protect some areas in Ambon.
This resulted in two bomb explosions on Sunday (23/05) that killed one person and
injured five others.
"The bombs are always placed in areas where police monitoring is low. Therefore, we
hope that the general public will be able to pass on information regarding this matter,"
said Bachtiar following the celebration of the 96th National Awakening Day at the
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah complex, Jakarta, on Monday (24/05).
Bachtiar regretted the recent provoking efforts committed by some perpetrators in
Ambon.
"Fortunately, the people in Ambon could not be provoked by the recent incident," he
stated.
Bachtiar also demanded the general public to give the police an opportunity to
investigate this case and arrest the perpetrators.
Bachtiar was convinced that the security personnel would be able to control the
situation in Ambon, particularly with the increase of troops in Ambon.
He considered it important to continue raids for illegal weapons and explosive
materials. (Deddy Sinaga – Tempo News Room)
