One Killed in Ambon Bombings
TEMPO Interactive, Ambon, Maluku:The National Police were carrying out an
investigation into four bombing incidents in Ambon, Maluku, on Tuesday (25/05).
National Police headquarters (HQ) spokesman, Brig. Gen. Soenarko Danu Ardanto,
said that the bombings had taken place in Batu Meja market, Maranatha church,
Indojaya supermarket and Ambon tax office.
One man was killed and 16 others were injured.
According to Ardanto, the first explosion took place at around 10.30am Eastern
Indonesian Time (WITA) at the T junction of Batu Meja market, around 500 meters
from Maluku Police headquarters (HQ).
However, the perpetrators of these bombing incidents are yet to be identified.
However, Ardanto said that he considered some perpetrators had planned to create
fear among the people of Ambon.
Another spokesman of the National Police HQ, Insp. Gen. Paiman, said that the
police immediately carried out searches as they identified the bombing locations.
At the locations, the police found three more bombs that were aimed at creating more
fear among the public.
Paiman urged the people not to be provoked by this recent incident. (Eduardus Karel
