Indonesia lands on travel blacklist
Australians have been given further warnings about travel to Indonesia.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is warning Australians against travelling
to Indonesia, particularly around Sulawesi, amid continuing reports that further terror
attacks are being planned.
Australians in Jakarta should be particularly careful and those who were concerned for
their security should consider leaving, it said.
There are concerns that further attacks may be made against embassies,
international schools, international hotels, churches and shopping centres.
The United States embassy in Jakarta warned that a convergence of events, including
the situation in Iraq, had heightened the threat of attacks against US citizens and
interests in Indonesia.
It advised Americans to be vigilant about their personal security and to consider
leaving, but did not elaborate on any specific new threat.
Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone said the US embassy warning showed that
reducing terrorism was a long-term issue.
"It's a very sad situation that all around the world people are at risk," Senator
Vanstone said.
