Here Comes The Groom #1426 |
Many consider this outfit to be the most elegant and elusive of all Kens vintage fashions. It dates from 1965-1966, a period that is well known to collectors because it produced so many treasures. Not only dolls like the bend-legs, American Girls, and Color Magics, but every single one of Kens fashions from these years is highly sought after. Little did he know it was his last hurrah. Haute Couture was already waining and little girls didn't want to dress their dolls up like their parents, they wanted the bright and colorful Mod look via the British Invasion. Vintage Ken would go the way of the dodo, replaced by a beefier New Good Looking Ken a couple of years later, and his outfits and their meticulous detail would go with him. Here Comes The Groom is modeled by the correct-era Bend Leg Ken. It's counterpart is Barbies Here Comes The Bride #1665. |
DETAILS AND CONDITION OF ITEMS FOR SALE This outfit is in overall excellent condition and includes his gray tails with attached white carnation on the lapel, gray felt vest, white tuxedo shirt, black pinstriped pants, top hat, socks and shoes. This outfit displays beautifully, but I will list all known flaws to me very meticulously. The above pictures are shown in a rather large format so you may judge for yourself, but keep in mind this exaggerates flaws which are not normally as pronounced to the naked eye. Coat Tails: this jacket is in fantastic condition with no discoloration, torn seams, or repairs. The white fabric carnation is intact as is the elastic loop for the button closure. The button has a melt mark but works as it should (see end). The half lining is solidly attached as well as the Ken label inside. Tuxedo Shirt: this piece is nice and clean with no yellowing and in excellent shape. The metal snaps are bright and shiny as are all three faux pearl buttons on the front. Vest: I would rate this one in the C-7 range. It displays very nicely, but does have its flaws. The back of the vest has some discoloration. I have never tried to wash it out, but it's under the coat so I never bothered. The three buttons on the left side are in perfect condition. There are two on the right and one has a melt mark that does make it cumbersome to button, but I never close it anyway because I don't want to 'stretch' the fabric (more on this at the end). Pants: these are in overall excellent condition as well. They are black with white pinstripes in a broken line pattern, quite elegant and unique. The zipper is bright and shiny, just like new. The snap itself is also like-new but oddly the female half is off by about 1/3 inch. It's definitely original and factory. It could easily be moved over a little if you chose to, but I kept it as is for posteritys sake as it doesn't interfere in any way. Top Hat: this piece is great! Other than one tiny spot on the underside where's it's slightly aged (can be removed with oxy10), it's in wonderful condition -no scratches, no meltmarks, no nicks, no rubs, no cracks, and still very soft and pliable! Socks and Shoes: the correct black socks and black squishy shoes are also included in great condition. I will also include upon request authentic vintage replacement black button for the tails and two white/clear buttons for the vest. You can leave them as is, or make them perfect again with a little needle and thread. Voila! |
