Falling off the Band Wagon (continued)....

As I began to tell you, I met a lovely young woman whom I had assumed was Ravishing in Rouge.  She was quite lovely and everything was going just fine.  That is until I realized she wasn't who she said she was.

She was an imposter.

My first clue was when I noticed my friends commenting on how much they liked the various features of their own RiR -the shimmering green eyeshadow, those glamorous ruby red lips.  I didn't recall any of these attributes belonging to my new friend and sure enough when I saw her next I noticed that she in fact did not.  I said nothing.  I didn't want to make any assumptions and I needed proof before I could say anything.  A quick search of the web confirmed what I had known all along -she was not who she appeared to be.

When I asked her about it she said nothing.  She simply stood there with this haughty look upon her face.  But no words need be spoken.  Her subtle but elegant taupe eyeshadow with just a hint of color in the middle and her lovely subdued soft coral lips told me everything I needed to know...she was different and not like the others.
Okay, so now that you know the story you're probably wondering just what exactly she is.  Well, as it was explained to us at the time these heads were production samples sent by the factory for approval prior to mass-production.  They were also used for various functions such as in house displays or at Toy Fare.  There was in fact a small rack of these heads all sorted out in large hanging bags similar to ziplock with most having several heads inside (at least ten in most cases I would guess).  This one was all by herself, but I don't think that she's a OOAK so I call her a Sample Doll although I guess she could also be properly called a prototype but that always seems to imply the very first doll which I'm fairly certain she isn't..  My friend Ellen was clever enough to suggest the name Ravishing and Rare and I like it so much it stuck!

It's hard to tell from the picture but her makeup is actually very soft and very natural looking.  She looks tailor made to model the "On the Boulevard" fashion.  I actually don't have a production Ravishing in Rouge so I haven't been able to clarify all the differences, but what's clear is that the facial makeup is entirely different.  The eyeshadow is a perfect match for Boulevard and I haven't been able to discern the true color of those lips.  They're a sort of soft dusty muted coral pink rose color that never seems to come out just right in a photograph.  The hair is basically the same and does appear a slightly different color, but I haven't been able to verify that.   In any case, she's hands down my favorite doll overall and I just can't get enough of her!

Regular Production Ravishing in Rouge
Gone are the ruby red lips and shimmery green eyeshadow of the original (above) when compared to the sample/prototype (left).  Although their hair appears different, I think it's just the photography.
