THE STORY: Werther, the melancholy poet, is madly in Love with Charotte.
But she cannot accept his love because of a promise she made to her dying
mother that she would marry Albert, a sensible and stable man. Knowing he
can never have her, Werther leaves the village in despair.
Now married to Albert, Charlotte meets Werther again and feels both flattered
and guilty by all of the attention he is giving her, as she knows she can
never be with him.
As the joyous sounds of Christmas are heard in the village, a distraught
Werther borrows Albert's pistol and is found fatally wounded. Only then
does Charlotte realize Werther was her true love. This tragic love story
is filled with dreams, fantasy, and harsh reality. |
