Oh my, where to begin? The Opposite of Sex stars Christina Ricci as Deedee, a low moral, selfish, tramp. After throwing a fit at her step-father's funeral and running away from home, 16 year old Deedee takes refuge at her much older and virtually unknown half-brother's home. Her story is far from over, however, and I wanted to leave only 20 minutes into the film. So not only does she bum off her brother, she seduces his dumb boyfriend, Matt, gets pregnant and they run away together. The rest of the movie is just a wild-goose chase across the country and Canada. I'm trying to gloss over the retched narrative this movie had but I'm finding it awful to describe. This was a repulsive film that had nothing good in it. Christina Ricci's character was by far the worst and I believe that is what the movie was getting at. She was so loathsome in her actions that the audience was supposed to laugh at her. But I didn't find one bit of this movie funny (except Lyle Lovett acting). As for the other actors, Lisa Kudrow didn't wander far from the likeness of a bitter Pheobe from Friends. Martin Donovan, who played Deedee's brother, did an ok job. He was emotionless in a role that needed a little bit of life. And, as I mentioned before, Lyle Lovett is in the movie also, but he doesn't sing and he certainly doesn't act. I shudder to think I spent movie on this movie. Home
