CA v2 M24 SOCOM Review
CA v2 M24 SOCOM Review
Well I finally got off my duff well I guess I am still on my duff because I am writing this so... but anyway I figured this is my off day and I would write up my review of the M24 SWS.
The Story.
Well I started out looking for a bolt action sniper rifle and starting out I had no idea what I wanted so I hit ASZ forum to fan through all the false info and crap for info to see what was a good rifle and not. I really wanted a M24 but at the time I was looking all that there was is the expensive PDI M24 and the CA v1 M24 witch I herd was a bad gun because of all the problems witch I will not go into here. So it was pretty much between the APS2, M40a1, and the M24. I herd good things about the APS2 but I did not like the looks of it I also herd good things about the M40A1 but I did not like the idea of the wood stock because I planed to beat it up. So I was pretty much left with the M24, I loved the M24 always anyway, so as I gasped at the price I went in search of one. I found a few that where on ASZ arms deals but non promising. I then came across a CA V1 M24 that was fully upgraded for sale, by whom I will not discuss because I want to keep his name under wraps, for $375 with bipod, scope, and internal upgrades well along story short I did not get it some one else did and it turned out to be a not so good gun anyway. So I was on the search again. about a month later after that deal on the ASZ I went onto CA site and saw that they had a v2 coming out well then I was like well I wonder when that will be. I went on WGC the next day and they had the V2 m24 by CA and it was not there the other day so I though hmm that's funny. I e-mailed WGC to see if they maybe did a typo because I thought a M24 for $270 I thought this is too good to be true. WGC got back to me later that day and I though WOW! and I had way more money than I needed because I had planed to buy the V1 M24 so I had about $400. I e-mailed WGC and dropped $320 on their lap and 5 days later there is was.
First impressions
Well now that you are done with the boring stuff above. When I first unwrapped my the box I though WOW its actually mine. I picked it up and suddenly my tong went num and I was slobbering like starving dog looking at food. This thing was by far the most real looking airsoft gun I have ever see.
After about the first hour of slobbering and staring I decided it was enough and decided to shoot it so I used the include loading rod to load 25 bbs in the mag, inserted the mag, pulled the bolt back. Now the first problem came. The bolt would not go all the way forward I then realized that the hopup unit was rattling around so I took it apart. Not too difficult to take apart, just remove the two big screws out on the bottom of the stock after that the receiver and barrel just comes off of the stock. Well the bolt that held the hopup unit there was loose witch was no big deal because I was told before I bought it that allot of the screws are naturally loose from the factory(why I don't know). Well with every thing tight I was ready to go.
So I started firing and firing and then, oh shoot, the bolt will not go forward then all the sudden it came to me that there is a stop in the magazine that keeps the bolt from going forward when the mag is empty so I pulled the mag out and started loading. Inserted the mag back in and started firing. Then all the sudden half way through the mag the bolt would not go forward. The Hopup unit was loose again and the whole trigger assembly. So I though I did not tighten all the screws tight enough so I did them all again(WARNING: Do not tighten the screws too much or else you will strip them). Now with it back together again I started to shoot again. After 40 round all the screws came loose again. A simple way to fix this is to apply lock tite to all the screws. I did not have any loc tite but my mother did have nail polish so I put some of that in it. I have put about 1500 rounds through it so far and not once have I had a problem so you don't have to run out and buy some loc tite, try nail polish first.
Well for other small specs on this gun here you go. The rail on the top is a standard weaver rail. I dunno if it was the first run or what but on my v2 M24 and the one that planetairsoft.com has does not have any form of adjustable hopup on it not even an internal adjustment. From what I hear the v2 m24s you buy now have an adjustable hopup that is adjustable through the mag well. The butt pad is also adjustable out to like 4 inches I think witch is a vary nice feature. There is also 3 sling studs, witch are anchored in there vary vary vary well, witch one of them is for a bipod and the other two are for a sling.
Stop with this stupid what is it like junk and tell me how it shoots
Well It is a pretty powerful gun for a stock gun. The CA v2 M24 clocks in at 330fps witch is not bad for a stock gun. Because of the fixed hopup it is a little hard to get good accuracy with .20 but since that is all I have that is what I am using. This gun will shoot accurately out to about 100 feet and can get almost out to 120 feet but it is not vary effective at that distance.
The trigger pull weigh on this thing stock I think is about 3lbs, I am not sure about that, and it increases as you put more powerful springs in it. The bolt I not vary heavy to pull back. For me I can pull the bolt back with one finger but my fingers are vary powerful considering I am a rock climber.
If you notice on some of my pictures there is no safety well that if because the safety just gets in the way and it is a vary poor design in the fact that it gets looser as you use it and eventually falls off so I just took it off.
Well there really is not much more I can say about how the gun works oh wait there is one other thing the mag is a pain in the butt to get out but the good news is it gets easier as time goes by and as you take it out and put it in.
last comments and stuff
Well would I recommend this gun to some one absolutely but you have to keep in mind that there is allot of work with the screws and stuff before it will actually work good and you got to be constantly putting grease on the bolt and stuff( I do that after every game). You must also bare in mind that this gun weighs in at about 10lbs for just the gun with out any scopes, bipods, or any thing else.
I put the pictures down below so if you want to look at them. I also took a picture of my SG-1 and M24 side by side for a length comparison. If you have any questions about this gun or about any thing else just e-mail me at Finealways@comcast.net Also tell me if I forgot any thing and I will add it. If I every decide to get off my duff I will go out and take some shots at some targets and get some range tests.
